Missionary of the Month:

Kitcharao National High School, The Philippines

In 1979 Virgie Cox attended the Kitcharao High School, The small fees and levies were not easy for her family but Virgie had a penfriend in Germany who kindly sent her small amounts of money which Virgie used to pay her fees and levies. The person you see in Virgie today can be attributed to the generosity of that German girl.

Following years of lobbying the government they decided to re-open the Kitcharao School after it was closed because families could not afford to pay the fees and levies. 600 students enrolled but they still faced the same problem....... no money! At that time Andrew and Virgie Cox were in the Philippines and they decided to sponsor several students, and on their return home they mentioned what they had done in their home group and the Missions Team, several folk from those groups sponsored students, that first year 33 students were sponsored, last year 100   students and this school year which commenced in May we have 150 students sponsored, Virgie was present when they enrolled for the new year and there are many more students requiring a sponsor. $20.00 per year is all it costs to sponsor a student for 1 year & that $20.00 can change a whole family.

Several of our sponsors have contributed to the school in other ways........ Andrew built a double bubbler drinking station to enable the students to have clean, filtered drinking water, the materials were donated by 2 RCBC families. The Missions Team donated some surplus funds to the school and together with the donations from other church families we purchased a new computer for the school office.
An American owned computer shop    business adjacent heard about what was going on and liked what we were doing and donated 11 (eleven) brand new computers for the school IT room for the IT courses. We have sent several boxes of encyclopaedias, text books, Christian books and   Christian literature to stock the school library, the Missions Team contributed towards the freight costs. There has been several food hamper and clothing distributions all donated by RCBC families. One Filipino man gave us his chicken (it was all he had) as a thankyou for helping with his children’s education. The school leadership, teachers, parents and students have asked us to pass on their grateful thanks to RCBC and individual sponsors for all the support for the school and so many students.

Those wishing to renew their 2010/11 sponsorship and interested new   sponsors can direct their enquiries to Andrew Cox 0417 86 1122, Virgie Cox 0417 96 1122 or Debbie Stanyer 0425 065 356. Our prayer is that teachers, parents and students will come to know the Lord through this act of Christian love by so many Godly people.
