REEDY CARE

Background

Towards the end of 2017 and throughout 2018, God was laying on various RCBC people a vision to serve the vulnerable in our community. Options were considered. In mid-2018, God gave Karyn Butcher a vision for an Op Shop that sold pre-loved clothing at low costs, provide donated food, and offer a listening ear over a cuppa.

A committee was formed consisting of Karyn Butcher, Stacey Arnold, Steve Hardy, and David Moyes. This committee explored the reasons for, viability of, and the possibilities of an Op Shop. They have visited several local and interstate Op Shops, met with interested people, and consulted with various professionals.

Throughout the planning, it became clear that God was birthing within the team something more than just an Op Shop. When people think of Op Shops various thoughts come to mind. While there will be the selling of quality pre-loved clothes, there will be a larger food pantry and café, all to assist the vulnerable in our community.

Aims

There are two aims of Reedy Care:

  1. To provide support and sharing our values of “we hope”, “we care”, “we love” to the vulnerable in our community as commanded by our Lord (Micah 6:8; James 1:27).

  2. To provide financial assistances to ministries/missions/chaplains of RCBC that serve the vulnerable.

Reedy Care will...

  • be open Monday to Friday (school hours).

  • sell good quality low cost clothing.

  • run the food pantry ministry and Christmas hampers.

  • sell low cost coffee, tea and cakes.

  • have community support information available e.g.: domestic violence, homelessness.

  • provide connection with the church and the community.

  • raise much needed funds for outreach, ministries, missions and church.

  • have a stronger connection with our schools - Hillcrest, Clover, Robina High and Burleigh through the Chaplains.

  • be a listening ear to those that need it.

  • show our values of We Care, We Hope, We Love.

Reedy Care is a ministry of Reedy Creek Baptist Church, overseen by a committee made up of RCBC members, coordinated by a paid manager, and will “Honour God” by:

  • Reaching the vulnerable in our community through low cost clothing, food and a listening ear.

  • Raising incredible finances for our ministries, missionaries, chaplains and special projects.

  • Raising the profile of Reedy Creek Baptist Church in the community.

  • Modernising a major portion of RCBC’s facilities.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me”  (Jesus – Matthew 25:35-36 NIV)
