January 1 - We Seek His Kingdom

Happy New Year. I trust that it will be a good year for you. Thanks so much for taking part in Reedy’s Month in Prayer. We Seek is our first value at Reedy. What a great way to start a new year - to seek God. Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. What is Jesus asking of us? Look at some of the key words in this verse. The Greek word for seek is zeteo which means “to hunger, to desire”. The word “first” is the Greek word proton, which means “first in order or importance, holding the highest place in all our affections”. Se we are to hunger and desire as first importance. The other two words are Kingdom, and, in this context, kingdom is the reign of God in our lives and the other key word is righteousness which is what is right in God’s eyes. Putting these important words together, we are to hunger and desire as of first importance the reign of God and what He sees as right for our lives. Let’s pray for that now - for a strong desire in our hearts to allow God to reign in our hearts.
