January 18 – We Honour Family

Hi there. We are participating in Reedy’s Month in Prayer. We’re past the halfway mark so thanks and keep hanging in there. I like what James, the brother of Jesus wrote about prayer. He wrote: “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16 NIV). And it is! We’ve been praying through our value of honour. Jesus is worthy of all honour and praise, and we are to honour others which includes family: Matthew 15:4 says, “For God said, 'Honor your father and mother'” (Matthew 15:4 NIV). Jesus was quoting the fifth commandment. Now I appreciate that for some, honouring their parent or parents is a challenge. That’s a whole topic for another day. For others, it’s a biblical value that some of us need to be reminded and act upon. Let’s thank God for the parents in our lives that were a Godly influence and for those who are parents, that they will lead by being Godly.
